Brendan Jury’s illustrious career in music has seen him write scores for numerous local and international documentaries as well as film, and television productions.
Soon after graduating from the University of Natal with a bachelor’s degree in music, Jury became the founding member, singer and viola player of the rock group, Urban Creep. From Jabu Khanyile to Phil Manzanera, Jury went on to work with some of the greatest musicians in South Africa across a number of genres. Jury’s career took a new turn when he started writing music for television commercials.
Some of the big brands’ commercials he has worked on include Guinness, Coca Cola, Shiseido and South African Tourism. He also began scoring for television dramas and movies, producing soundtracks for BBC, Discovery Channel, SABC and various films including iNumber Number. Jury then joined rock group, Springbok Nude Girls and continues to work closely with the band’s former lead vocalist Arno Carstens on his solo projects. His accomplishments include directing, conducting and orchestrating DJ Black Coffee's Africa Rising project which won the South African Music Award (SAMA) for best dance album in 2014. He recently joined forces with a fellow composer, Warrick Sony to jot music for William Kentridge's Ubu and the Truth Commission which toured for over a year in the United States of America as well as the United Kingdom and other European countries.
Jury composed the score for Unearthed, which won best documentary at Sheffield Film Festival 2014. He was nominated for a South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA) - Best TV Drama Composer 2015 for the SABC series Swartwater.
